   What is Paleontology?    Paleontology  is the branch of  geology  that deals with the study of  life in the past geological ages. It is simply known as the study of  fossils . Fossils are nothing but the remains, impressions, or traces of animals or plants. These animals or plants have been said to have lived in the  geological past  .These fossils provide direct evidence of life  that existed millions of years ago.  Why is paleontology important? To unfold the history of earth . To understand  evolution  better. To find and discover the  climatic changes  or the conditions of the past. INTRODUCTION TO PHYLUM MOLLUSCUS  * Phylum  mollusca  is one of the largest and most diverse groups in the animal kingdom .   *It is widely known as  mollusca.   * The molluscus mainly contains shellfish and a wide variety of invertebrates   * Some well kmown animals are chitons, tooth shells, oyesters, mussels, clams, slugs , snails,etc. GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF MOLLUSCUS *These molluscan animals mostly contain soft unsegmented bodies that is protected by an external calcareous shell. * It has a well developed heart and vascular system, one or more pair of gills and other breathing organisms in the absencs of gills.
